TED note: Bio-fuels, Algae, OMEGA

Jonathan Trent: Energy from floating algae pods

OMEGA: Offshore Membrane Enclosures for Growing Algae

Micro-algae that produce oil as possible alternative energy source.
Bio-fuels on a scale that can actually compete with fossil fuels, but not compete with agriculture for water, fertilizer or land.
Waste water from city as inputs to feed micro-algae.
Integrate with all other facility of alternative energy (solar, wind, tidal, ...) to make it feasible.
Integrate aquaculture product to be the  market drive.
If broken, algae will not live in sea water so won't cause environmental impact.

What is really required for sustainability is integration more than innovation.
In the long term, I think there's almost no limit what we can accomplish, if we are radically open and we don't care who gets the credit.

The sustainable solutions for our future problems are going to be diverse and many. We need to consider everything.
